Here are a few ideas for places to visit for a few hours or a full day – all within driving distance of the hotel. If you need directions, just ask.

Thirlestane Castle

27 miles from Peebles, Thirlestane Castle is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland. Originally built as a fort in the 13th century, ‘Scotland’s fairy-tale castle’ been restored to its former splendour. There’s also an adventure playground to keep the younger family members occupied.

New Lanark Visitor Centre

The award-winning New Lanark Visitor Centre is a 50 minute drive from Peebles. This fascinating and beautifully restored 18th century cotton mill village became famous as a model industrial community. Highlights include the ‘Annie McLeod Experience’, which features a journey back in time to 1820.

Floors Castle

Floors Castle in Kelso is around 30 miles from the hotel. The family home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe, it’s the largest inhabited castle in Scotland. There’s plenty to do, including woodland or riverside walks, or a stroll around the formal gardens. Or just watch the children let off steam in the enclosed adventure playground.

Mellerstain House

Mellerstain House is around an hour’s drive from Peebles. Designed by William and Robert Adam, it’s a beautiful example of an eighteenth century Scottish stately home. The house contains some fabulous paintings, embroidery and china; the outstanding gardens offer lakeside and woodland walks, and a children’s play area.

Kelso Showground

Kelso Showground, a one hour drive from Peebles, hosts a range of events throughout the year − from art and wedding fairs, to dog shows and antique markets. Check their website to see what’s on.
