present participle: upcycling
1. Re-use (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.
Upcycling – that’s what we’re doing.
We’ve taken a selection of the unloved odds and ends from the old Peebles March Street Mills (which was sadly forced to close for good back in 2015) and turned them into something new and exciting!
Thanks to efforts of our Chief Upcycler and former mill employee, Ann Napier, the history of the town’s textile industry is alive and well within our walls; welcoming you through our doors, hanging from our walls and cushioning you in our bar. And, the upcycling doesn’t stop there…
We’ve moved beyond the influence of the mill to filter the spirit of upcycling down into almost every aspect of what we offer. Everything from our Bakery menu, which is printed on the back of old envelopes, to the upcycled public art gallery and even our vintage double decker bus which has been repurposed as a (kind of) outdoor seating area.
