Exploring the History of Scotland
Castles and Keepers
Scotland is a great place to visit for people interested in history. We are particularly proud of the local area we work in. There are so many places to visit to enhance your experience that we promise you will not miss out as we can tell you exactly where to go to get the most out of your stay. You can hit the ground running when you visit Floors Castle which is just under an hour away from our hotel. The Floors Castle is home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe and the house is an incredible example of a well maintained stately country home.
Whilst you are in the area you should also pay a visit to Mellerstain House, which took a reported 53 years to complete. Started in 1725 and finally finished in 1778, the home is an unusual mixture of unique and quirky architecture. Thirlestane Castle is a 13th-century fort with deep historical connections and is a definite must-see. Of course, no trip to Scotland is complete without seeing Edinburgh Castle, so don’t miss out on that one either. Our hotel is conveniently located to enjoy the rich history of Scotland and with super low rates, you don’t need to be as rich as a king to afford a Scottish short break.
